Bad Boys: Ride or Die Review

No such thing as a bad Bad Boys movie!

I love Michael Bay movies; I love how they look; I love how they are action first and story later; I like that they can be overly long. His style is firmly in this film even though he didn't direct it! It was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah who returned from the 2020 Bad Boys: Forever. They have a very clear understanding of why this series rules and why the audience needs these movies. The Bad Boys films are just fun from beginning to end, even in the tearful moments.

The two stars have so much chemistry and flow off each other so well, their banter is so realistic and funny. Both Mike and Marcus evolve in this movie and add so much depth to their characters. Martin Lawrence as Marcus has developed a main character complex to where he believes he is immune to death. This is such a fun change that allows the more reserved character to act fearlessly (and idiotically) when faced with the dread of this entry. Will Smith's Mike begins the film as a married man now, no longer the bachelor he is scared of risk and the consequences of them. Mike and Marcus are incredible at being the Yin and Yang of this movie and keeping their characters fresh in the fourth entry.

The plot is intriguing with the Bad Boys having to go on the run because of the deceased chief being set up. It forces the Boys to go deeper in their friendship and how much they mean to each other. Forced to rely on each other and a small group of people they know are... ride or die. The side characters do a great job of adding skill and comedy. Each team member feels important and like they're actually contributing to the mission. I would also like to mention that some of the side characters add a lot of emotion to the film. It was important to bring the new characters to another level from their debut in the previous film, and I strongly feel that they succeeded.

Overall, I really enjoyed this film, it feels like I have less to say about this movie than other movies I've reviewed but that's because it's just a fantastic action movie. I'm very grateful that films like this exist where I don't have to go on this uber deep journey, and I can just have fun and laugh, isn't that what entertainment is about at the end of the day!
